Brought to you by...
* Folk at the Old Folks. As you can probably see from all the banners surrounding this post, we return this Saturday with the first Folk at the Old Folks show for 2016. We are stoked with our lineup featuring the Pipi Pickers, Dave Alley and Louis & Julius (of Glory Days). Doors open up at 8pm and we'll have nice warm drinks to welcome you in, plus some cookies for your after dinner snacks. Music will kick off shortly after that and we suggest you buy tickets early as it will save you some dollars!
News, bits and bobs:
* A lovely new song from Sophie Mashlan popped out a few days ago. We've loved working with Sophie over the last year!

Upcoming shows to watch out for:
*Miles Calder & The Rumours are a five piece alt-country band based in Wellington, New Zealand. Miles Calder contacted me a few weeks ago letting me know they are playing a show this Friday at the Wine Cellar. I was excited to hear this as I'd heard their EP a long while back. This month has flown by and all our plans to do a full length interview have fallen by the wayside, however he promises they are returning so I have another chance to chat with him. I highly suggest you check out the EP below and then grab some tickets to the Friday show!

* Tiny Ruins just announced a special show next Sunday 29th May. Hollie has returned from Europe and this is acting as a sort of test run for their shows at the Sydney Opera House next week for the Vivid Festival. There will be old songs, new songs and their beautiful David Lynch collaboration plus vibraphone, organ and trumpet. It WILL sell out. So get in quick.
*Tami Neilson also just released a suprise Pop-Up Gig for this Thursday 26th May! What a bunch of shows for this week! It's an all new, never-before seen show full of soul, country, gospel and backwater blues. Tami and her Hot Rockin' Band of Rhythm will take on a raft of classic blues and gospel songs across the night, it's a sneak peak before they hit the Cardboard Cathedral the next night. (EDIT: this has now sold out...)
* Hopetoun Brown have announced another show of the Brass Yourself series, which puts them alongside members of Carnivorous Plant Society and other brilliant musos. We ABSOLUTELY loved this show when we saw it last time so highly suggest you go along,it's at Golden Dawn on 25th June. So plenty of time to get prepared.

A Video!
The very lovely Micheal Young, of Albi and the Wolves and curator of the Bunker Hill Unplugged, was recently featured in an episode of Neighbourhood. It's a lovely little peek into the life of a man who's been very influential in New Zealand folk over the last two decades, whether it be as a musician, or as a recording engineer, or just as a mentor and help! I have only good things to say about Micheal.

What we've been listening to this week:
Rodney Fisher, of many projects, currently curating the Kingsland Folk Club put together this lovely playlist of New Zealand alt folk and Americana. We think you'd like it as much as we did.
and finally, our helpful Gig Guide for this week...
