Here's where you should be going in the next week. As usual, apologies if we've missed any gigs. Please don't hesitate to email and tell me, "How could you have missed this gig? It's the most important folk event of the month, you fool." We try to be everywhere but there's only a few of us. So...
Thursday (19th February):
- Will Wood / Hopetoun Brown / Tom Cunliffe will be bringing Lucha to life with a short, sharp and fantastic gig from 8pm until no later than 10pm. Their words, not mine.
- Albi and the Wolves begin their fortnightly session at the Portland Public House, from 8.30 til late. They are going to be accompanied by special guests, and this week Milly and Liam from the Miltones are going to join them for some jams.
- Plus, Chris Priestley will be hosting the weekly Jam Nite at One2one Cafe on Ponsonby Road.
Friday (20th February): Now you have to make choices, I'm going to be impartial from now on.
- Marlon Williams & the Yarra Benders bring the Dark Child Tour to the Tuning Fork, with support from Eb & Sparrow (who will not be in Auckland for another few months).
- Over at the Wine Cellar there's a whopping lineup including Mice on Stilts, Summer Gaunts, Folkcat and Harvey Warbanger.
- Chris Priestley and his assortment of multi-talented musical friends will be playing the guest spot at Rafters Music Club in Ponsonby.
Saturday (21st February):
- International songwriter Kim Richey is in town at the Tuning Fork, doors at 7.30pm. There is too much to say about her, check "What's On" for more information on her. She will be supported by Tui finalist Rachel Dawick.
- Stretch and the Bootlegs continue to take Auckland by storm only mere months after their first gig. They are playing at the Lucha Lounge with support from Mahoney Harris.
Sunday (22nd February):
- The new place to play is called Freida Margolis, on Richmond Road in Grey Lynn. The Kingsland Folk Club is presenting their Sunday night gig from there, featuring Herriot Row and Dead Little Penny.
- The Devonport Folk Club start their new monthly gig Bunker Hill Unplugged, featuring Victoria Vigenser, Handful of Arrows, Bob Large and the all energy bluegrass of Hot Diggity, from 8pm.
- Before you go to Bunker Hill Unplugged make a day of it and join some of the Devonport crew and other folkies in Windsor Park behind the Library from 4pm.
Monday (23rd February):
