Folk is a community, it is more than just a genre of music.
Second Hand News is a site dedicated to this community in Auckland. We feature gigs, events, interviews with local musicians and venues hosting folk music. We think it’s got the potential to be a great tool to bring the Auckland Folk Music Community together. Before we ultimately take on the entire folk music community of New Zealand.
The website and content is created by a passionate and creative team who are keen to hit the ground running and build strong relationships with the Auckland Folk Venues and Auckland folk musicians.
Think we're missing anything folky in Auckland? Fancy joining the team?
In a band or know a band that we should know?

Finally, if you just wanna say hi,
Finn McLennan-Elliott is the founder of Second Hand News. He launched onto the folk scene a few years ago, starting his monthly Folk at the Old Folks series and curating exciting folk shows. Second Hand News came together after he realised there was a gap in the folk world that he could fill, offering content from all parts of the community! Finn is on the organising committee for the Auckland Folk Festival now and is very excited about the folk music scene in New Zealand and where it is going!
A passionate folkie from way back, Fraser Browne grew up with a steady diet of folk music, mostly fed to him by his dad, which made him fascinated with clever lyrics and the meanings behind songs. He has played music since day one, mainly focusing on piano and singing before exasperation with lifting heavy keyboards forced him to pick up a guitar. He now gigs regularly around Auckland, and has toured a few times around NZ. Fraser Browne joined Second Hand News two years ago with a desire to get people talking more about what is up with folk in New Zealand.
